Just thought you might be interested in the following meeting if you are in the New York city area (in the U.S., of course) & you are interested in Web channels as a way to leverage SGML or XML data. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone else who might be interested. Also note that we'll have online journal publishing in April. Best regards, /chet ----- The SGML Forum of New York invites you to attend: ENTERPRISE INFORMATION PORTALS AND XML Date: Tuesday, March 16, 1999, 5:30 p.m. Place: McGraw-Hill, Inc. 2nd Floor Conference Center rm. 208 1221 Avenue of the Americas (entrance on 49th St.), New York, NY Agenda: 5:30 Opening Remarks 5:45 Keynote Speaker: Norbert H. Mikula Director of Architectural Services DataChannel 6:30 Break and Refreshments 6:45 Vendor Demonstration: DataChannel RIO - an XML based framework for two way corporate portals KEYNOTE: Enterprise Information Portals and XML Information is one of the most important assets- if not the most important one - of a modern-day company and XML is likely to become the general standard for the markup of information in webbased applications. Enterprise Information Portals (EIP) enable workers at all levels of an organization to get access to information on a personalized level. XML is a natural fit for EIPs as it provides an abstraction layer for all kinds of legacy data - on the level of metadata as well as actual data. The presentation will discuss the problems of information distribution/contribution, approaches to this problem and what role XML does/will play. VENDOR PRESENTATION DataChannel RIO DataChannel RIO is a two-way Corporate Portal whereby Companies can effectively publish, share, distribute and manage their mission-critical knowledge. DataChannel RIO provides an XML-based framework that makes Corporate Intranets and Extranets more useful by making them more usable. It controls user access, the enabling of true end-user publishing, and leverages existing investment in legacy data and distributed computing. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Norbert H. Mikula is Director of Architectural Services at DataChannel where he also is the technical lead for its professional services division and the technical representative for DataChannel at the Open Applications Group. Norbert has developed one of the first XML parsers (NXP) and has been engaged in XML related efforts since the early days of this standard. Currently Norbert also serves as Chief Technology Officer on the board of directors of OASIS - the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards. UPCOMING EVENTS April 16th: On-Line Journal Publishing: Hear speakers from Elsevier Science and American Institute of Physics discuss their approaches to on-line publishing: For our vendor demonstration, Enigma will present their publishing engine that allows for CD and Web delivery for professional publishing. Tonight's demo will include a publishing solution for Scientific American.
