I don't know a lot about formats. But in a sense, it sounds like you want mp3 to essentially be a WAV file...I suppose a device that could play wav files could work as well. I don't know if mp3 is a flexible enough that a random existing mp3 player could play your new format. I've been trying to think of backups incase the mp3 player doesn't work.
