<xsl:template match="a"> <a href="<xsl:value-of select="@href"/>"><xsl:value-of select="."/></a> </xsl:template> The above looks OK to me, XSL files have to be well formed XML, and XML does not allow < in attribute values. In most XSL systems a stylesheet containing the above would not be passed to the XSL processor at all, having generated a fatal error in the XML parser.
