Since XSLT is side-effect free, all iterations of a loop are conceptually done at the same time. So there no way of finding the node wich is about to be processed :-) But there is a way to find the following node in document order from the context node list: Before invoking for-each, save the sorted node-set in a variable (let's call it $var). Then invoke <for-each select="$var">.
