If so, I share your taste, however: 1. putting a property on a formatting object with no descendants that are ever going to use it is not an error (although it would be nice if it triggered a warning) 2. FOP is still alpha and I've been working on increasing functionality and getting the underlying architecture right before comprehensive error handling. Because FOP implements inheritance as "pull from ancestor" rather than "push to descendant", it would take a fair bit of work to check for unused definitions of property values.
